Remembering Nina

(January 17, 1961 - October 8, 2020)

Nineke Helena “Nina” van Leusden was the youngest of Ann and Bill van Leusden’s family of six children. Nina attended day programs at the Garth Homer Center and she did love her tea! The family expressed their gratitude on Nina’s behalf with a generous gift to the Garth Homer Endowment Fund, which has been matched by the Foundation.

Nina’s legacy will also live on through her generous joyful spirit and her gift for making and building relationships. Nina’s brother, Jack, says “in particular, we were very grateful for Nina’s support worker Kim, who formed a lovely relationship with Nina”. Nina was close to Kim, her last worker at Garth Homer along with several others and they were amazing examples of the social connections formed at the Garth Homer Centre for people to make a life, a home and place in the world.

The Foundation enjoyed meeting with Nina’s brothers Jack and Peter to share wonderful stories of Nina and wishes to express their gratitude to the family for all they have done to help ensure Nina’s legacy lives on into the future. Nina has inspired us!

Dear Bruce and Foundation Board,

The family has appreciated the work you do on behalf of those with disabilities and Nina was a grateful recipient of your services. Thank you.
